62Patio furniture fittings
Having completed a space for your outside patio dining area, you will now want to compliment it with furniture specifically made for the outdoors.
This patio furniture will include your actual dining set that will consist of a table and chairs that allows your family & friends to sit comfortably, and allowing enough room on the table to allow food to adequately be served. Designs vary from round seating arrangements to more traditional rectangle plan, but whatever the type chosen, the object is to maximize space to comfortably seat a set number of guests.
Depending on the size of your outdoor patio, you may have the
opportunity to place a garden swing, or a love seat. Generally
speaking, these can be found to include a combined canopy that will
shield you from the sun, leaving you with the possibility positioning
it away from your actual dining area. There are quite a few designs out
there that will compliment a wide range of style of furniture.
Benches
are also a useful asset to any collection of patio furniture. A static
version of a swing, that will seat 3-4 people, and when accompanied
with seating and back cushions, they are very comfortable for seating
for long periods of time.

Outdoor dining
Your patio should be designed with the
intention of taking your indoor living requirements outside, and so
therefore, whatever you have indoors to make a dining space comfortable
and allow you to work efficiently, the same will be required for your
outdoor eating area. And at the heart of any kitchen would be your
cooker. A patio revolves around a barbeque. These can either be
designed to use charcoal, which is a more traditional way, or they can
be designed for the more popular propane versions.
Although
the prospect of going outside to light a propane gas barbeque appeals
to most, a charcoal barbeque will give you a better tasting dish. But
getting it lit will be somewhat more involved. Some newer natural
barbeques incorporate chimneys that allow you to use a couple of sheets
of paper that are lit underneath the coals, allowing the charcoal to
ignite. But older & more traditional designs merely require the
placing of burner blocks strategically placed around the grill and lit,
or you can use a special fluid that is squeezed over the charcoal
before lighting.
Natural charcoal is wood that has been baked.
The major successful steak houses around the country will cook their
meat on natural charcoal, and each type will add it’s own flavor
according to what the base wood was. (Oak, Maple, Mesquite). You can
find these charcoals at leading grilling centers, Trader Joe’s, Lowe’s,
or Home Depot.
The term barbeque actually describes the art of
cooking meat with the heat of the smoke. You will never be able to
emulate the taste of what charcoal brings with a gas substitute.
But
this article wasn’t written with the intention of demonizing the
propane alternative. Because of the ease of lighting and cleaning
involved, the majority of outdoor diners will favor this type of
barbeque, taking into account that whatever lack of flavor they’ll
forsake, will quickly be rewarded with the ease it was lit, and the
minimal time spent cleaning, and preparing for the next feast.
Keep warm around the table
When
entertaining on your patio you make like to also consider some extra
portable heat that is placed in proximity of your guests. Just because
the sun goes down, taking its heat source shouldn’t deter you, or your
guests from remaining outside socializing until well into the evening.
These
portable heaters can be found to run on electricity or propane,
although the latter would be more flexible. It would use the same size
bottle of gas that your barbeque would use. This is good in the fact
that you now have bottles of propane that will interact with
appliances, making it a very versatile option.
These are generally around 7 feet tall, mushrooming at the top. This allows for radiant heat to be dispersed up to 10-15 feet.
Another
way to add heat would be by way of adding a fireplace, or a fire pit.
Both offer great heat sources, but tend to be a more permanent fixture.
A
fireplace can be made into a focal point, similar to an indoor version,
by where seating can be placed around it to make it a central feature
within the design of your patio furniture set.
Or you could choose the option of building a fire pit, which as the
name applies is literally a pit that can be purposely built, or
purchased from your local hardware store. You can nowadays even
purchase tables incorporating pits.
Most of these types of
heating require wood, coal, and briquettes to burn, although a
custom-built fire pit could be designed with the intention of running
on gas.
There really is no limit as to what you can furnish your newfound outdoor dining area.
